Sphaera Ephemeris returns!
Welcome to the second-generation Sphaera Ephemeris!
I’ve been doing some theme testing and other such … and trying to make time to post because I’ve been up to my ears with preparing stuff and working on a separate project that is taking eons to get off the ground. But I’m getting there!
I expect to take a drive through the burned areas around Athens this weekend (with camera in hand). The devastation is enormous. This place won’t recover, ever, from this latest catastrophe. Greeks are succeeding in their lifelong target: to make their country into one prolonged arid desert populated by villas built without a building permit. This is the ultimate in sadomasochism and a monument to a culture of illicit gain, complete ignorance of the public good, and a never-ending thirst for material goods that add not one iota to a better tomorrow.
I am disappointed to report the effort is succeeding.

Καλορίζικο το καινούριο σπιτάκι. Glad to hear the fires are out and that there hasn’t been any, to my knowledge, loss of life. Let’s hope that the Greek polity eventually awakens from a long slumber, hopefully before the flames are lapping at their very doorstep.
Best wishes and semper fi.

Thanks Stavros! Καλωσόρισες! I certainly feel SE has a “lucky” feel to it… Unfortunately, we have suffered the first fatality in the fires. Air Force Col. Stergios Kotoulas, father of two, died last Thursday when his antiquated plane crashed during a firefighting mission in Cephallonia. He was the 19th pilot to die fighting the flames since ‘74. I took a depressing tour of the burned areas this morning. I’ll put up a separate portfolio as soon as I can.
